During an interview, there are some questions, asked by the hiring manager without any discrimination of industry and position. One of the most common interview questions is related to the candidate’s strength. This question is asked in question way:
  • What are your strengths?
  • What is your greatest strength?
  • Which thing did you consider as your greatest strength?
  • How your greatest strength can improve your performance?

This is a self-awareness question and it is essential to answer in a proper way. Before answering this question it is important to know the interviewee’s perspective. There are a number of reasons behind this question, some of them are:
  • They want to confirm that candidate’s strength is according to their required skills.
  • They’ll get a confirmation about candidate’s self-awareness.
  • They will check how a candidate can participate in task achievement?
  • They’ll check candidate’s confidence.
  • They might look for communication skills. 

Therefore, skipping or avoiding this interview question is not a good approach. Now, the rest of interview will be dependent on this question because with an answer candidate may:
  • Provide the reason for hiring
  • Prove them a part of competition
  • Prove them an ideal candidate
  • Make hiring manager able to trust. 

While answering the question be sure, your strength meets the prerequisite of the job position. The preferable strength skills should be knowledge based technical skills. Respond with complete confidence and focus towards the opportunity. You may quote some good examples from your past experience and achievement. Make sure that your strength is leading the communication towards a positive end. Don’t be overconfident but be self-assured with the strength statement. While answering an interview question, it is important to think about the management’s perspective.
